When we arrived in Finland we were immediately informed by other students about an ESN association which offers many advantages.
The association was created on October 16, 1989 and it helps to maintain and develop student exchanges between different countries. They are present in more than 1000 higher education institutions in 40 countries and the network is constantly expanding. Today, there are more than 350,000 students who are part of the ESN.
To join the association it is simple to be registered as an Erasmus student at a partner university (for us it is Savonia in Finland) and if you wish you can pay about 15 € for your ESN membership which will allow you to acquire a card with a number. This is the ESN card. It is valid for all Erasmus students depending on the country you are in.
This card offers advantages such as preferential rates on certain flights like Ryanair, discounts in certain bars and restaurants or discounts on trips organised by the ESN association where you are.

The ESN card is valid for one year so you have time to enjoy all these benefits!
If you are open-minded and dynamic enough and especially if you speak English well, you can even join the association as an active member later on.
