Dressing in Finland

As you know, Finland is one of the Nordic countries. During the winter, the whole of Finland is covered in snow and temperatures range from -10 degrees to -25 degrees, most of the time. In addition, there are very few hours of sunshine. Then, in March-April the temperatures range from 0 degrees to -10 degrees usually and the days get longer. Therefore, if you go to Finland between January and May (as I did), it is absolutely necessary to bring adequate clothing.

So be careful, the rule is quite simple, it's the three layer rule. Three layers is more than enough. It's better to have the right clothes than to pile up layers one after the other.

What are the three layers?

- The first layer: technical underwear

- Second layer: fleece

- The third layer: the heavy jacket

Let's go through the layers one by one.

For the first layer, I bought technical underwear, i.e. tight-fitting, breathable, thermo-light underwear, adapted to the heat. For the top, I chose long-sleeved tops in wool or merino; most of them came from Damart and Décathlon. For the bottom, I chose fleece leggings and technical tights from Damart. This layer is very important, to be warm!

Then for the second layer, you have to choose jumpers, sweatshirts, fleeces that will keep your body warm. I found some at Decathlon and other sports shops at a good price.

And the third layer is the down jacket or ski/parka/windbreaker jacket. For a good, warm jacket, you often have to pay the price. My down jacket was from The North Face, a very good brand for proper clothing in countries like Finland.

Of course, remember to cover the extremities of your body! That's where I got the coldest. You need warm socks and gloves, a hat, good shoes and a scarf to protect you from the cold.

As you can imagine, this destination requires a big budget, if only to be properly dressed. You should not neglect this step before your departure, because believe me, without the right clothes you will succumb to the cold, I guarantee it!

Happy shopping!
